another wonderful Street View [22 May 2009|11:26am]
Type the words "54 Great Russell St, Camden Town" into Google's Street view... oh and yes it's work safe, not a hooker in sight! Although some would call him a corporate whore for the whole Marmite thing...

Oooh! I never knew that! [13 May 2009|01:30pm]
I got invited along to a lecture at Gresham College this evening and in looking up their website for their address etc, I learnt that they have most of their old lectures available to view, or at least listen to, on the web. It's fantastic! There are many different subjects listed and goes back as far as 2001. This, along with Academic Earth, means that I now have as much geeky viewing pleasure as I could want! Pah! Who needs TV when you have this many lectures available to you.

For those that are interested -

Right, must put down this lecture on Antihydrogen and actually do some work!

How To Sort Out The Economy

Dear Mr. Darling,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Britain's economy. Instead of giving billions of pounds to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan. You could call it the "Patriotic Retirement Plan":

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the workforce. Pay them £1 million apiece severance for early retirement, with the following stipulations:

1. They MUST retire. 20 million job openings = Unemployment fixed.

2. They MUST buy a new British car. 20 million cars ordered = auto industry fixed.

3. They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage. Housing crisis fixed.

4. They must send their kids to school/college/university. Crime rate fixed.

5. They must spend £50 a week on alcohol or tobacco. There's your money back in duties and taxes.

It can't get any easier than that!!!

Today was an amazingly productive and enjoyable day - tomorrow is actually going to be even better! It is a pity none of you are me because I love the way things are going just that much!

Phire Shoot [27 Apr 2009|11:56am]
[ mood | accomplished ]

*twitch*
ok so downing two lake-sized cups of yerba mate might not have been the most sensible of ideas but I do now also kinda feel I could conquer the world!

Anyways, the point... Last night.

WAS SO MADE OF WIN!

Phire Shoot is a lovely little facebook group (see, facebook can be used for the powers of good too) which combines people playing with fire, photographers and pretty urban locations. you can imagine what happens. (No, we don't all get arrested AND nobody is set on fire... unless they meant to do it!)

We meet up with the guy running it at 7 at Notting Hill Gate tube and after some waiting around for people we head off to an undisclosed pretty location somewhere nearby... with the guy that knew exactly where the location was still not in attendance. Cue the amusing scene of a long walk down Portobello road with two guys on mobiles speaking in a mix of English and French trying to give and receive directions at the same time.

Anyway, we finally get to the location which is right down the other end of Portobello Road, in fact two tube stops are closer than Notting Hill Gate, and it is a sunken basketball court with many pretty pieces of Graffiti which are going to serve as backdrops.

All goes well, many photos are taken, until the kids that were obviously put out with us depriving them from their only non-criminal evening activity decided to start throwing things into the basketball course... including street signs and road cones. One even decided to come onto the course wielding as cone to try and menace us... We are all wielding fiery weapons, you retard, do you really thing we are the one that needs to be worried! (For reference I am pretty certain this is the area that Kidulthood and Adulthood were filmed, so you get an impression of what the local children will be like.) Sadly it did have the desired effect as it completely robbed the energy and mood so we moved on to a second location. I think it sad that such a mentality is so commonplace, rather than be grateful for being offered a free display of something I doubt very much they would have encountered before, the only thing they took delight in was when things went wrong and seeing if they could put people off when they were performing.

Amusingly though in someways we should be grateful for them as the second location was fantastic. Initially we were heading to a disused car park in front of a mosque but as we arrived at what seemed to be a time of prayer and thus very busy, we though probably best not. In today's climate you never know what response you would get if perceived to be heading towards a mosque with fire in hand... Thankfully nearby there was wonderful bridge going over the tube lines and after a little coaxing those of us up for it we persuaded the photographers that the location was viable - sentries posted at each end of the bridge etc. Before you knew it, it was the photographers that were wanting to stay as they practically wet themselves over the different options on lighting and positioning etc!

It got to about 10.30 when we finally finished and went our separate ways... all of us happy it the shoot and most of us stinking of paraffin! In fact I still smell of it today after showering hard!

Oh and before you all ask, yes there will be photos posted, as soon as I get them... no doubt a few of them is become icons as well!

Am in the very laborious process of selling a lot of CDs and DVD on Amazon, most of them won't be of interest to you lot but I thought I would pick the brains on one of them...

Have any of you heard of "PEACH gb"? Apparently it features Justin Chancellor from TOOL, came out in 2000. It's still wrapped (one of the many things I picked up when still at Sony) so the question is: Is it worth keeping for should I just flog it to a TOOL fan?

Spinning stuff [17 Apr 2009|05:00pm]
A couple of spinning related things:

First and most important Benjy shall be attending the Vauxhall meet tonight and the Brick Lane meet on Tuesday - anyone fancy coming along and keeping him company? There has been a distinct lack of group spinning for far too long, can we please rectify.

Details for the Vauxhall group are:

Vauxhall Gardens Community Centre
100 Vauxhall Walk, SE11 5EL
8pm - 11pm £3 donation (the usual deal really)

Can't really give many details for the Brick Lane atm. It's called Spinning @ The Rag Factory... I know a few people have been (am thinking promiseclean and lusercop in particular) when I get more info I will post it up.

On a slightly separate note, I am currently looking for notation for spinning buzzsaw, does anyone know of a simple way to describe which way it is spinning, that makes sense from wherever you are standing?

I seem to have stopped smoking... haven't now since Sunday and provided I don't fixate on it (this post is already too long) there does not seem to be much problem in doing so...

so anyway, next topic...

Does any one fall for these adverts so called blogs... [31 Mar 2009|12:33pm]
Sometimes I can resist. Those stupid advert links you get my the side of your facebook, at the top of your gmail page... whatever format sometimes I have a look to see how awful they are... one for "Ripped abs" lead me HERE...

Aside from being a blog-that's-blatantly-not-a-blog it has the delightful/offensive part about how he "was [a] weak and obese university student that lacked confidence"?!? He then points you to the photo of him at that time... Sweet Christ, I would walk down the street, head held high, whistling, if I had a body that good... oh wait I do that anyway because I don't care that I don't fit the musclebound stereotype! But the point stands, the guy is hardly a slob when he starts. Makes you wonder quite how insecure most of the male populace must be... Guys? I know you are hardly likely to representative but having seen the pictures don't you want to rush out and buy Acai Burn right now, now, NOW!

It saddens me to think this company will make any money from this advert... I think we should all apply for the free sample, I have no intention of parting over any money but they won't know that when they happily pay to send me something, in the hope that I may buy more... maybe if enough people do it, it will help balance their books... at zero!

Result! [17 Mar 2009|12:35pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

I just made a firewhip! (photos and video will follow)

In the end, it took less than half an hour to do and cost me less than £20! OK so it's not quite to the quality that, say, Riz makes but then it also doesn't cost between $125 and $250 take 8 to 10 weeks to make and then need to be shipped from Florida!

to all the technical music geeks out there... [16 Mar 2009|12:34pm]
I've now given up on the idea of having enough space to run a big decent stereo system and I am looking to sell a Denon PMA-300V integrated stereo amp and a Denon TU-260 LII am/fm Stereo Tuner. Anyone interested before I stick them on Ebay? Speakers will get sold when they come out of the loft.
